Georgian Style Garden, Bodmin

The clients of this Georgian House in Bodmin wanted to turn this unused and non-descript space at the side of the house into a functional garden space - somewhere to sit and relax, which also doubles up as a smart entrance space in front of an office.  The garden had to be very low maintenance and be in keeping with the style of the house.

Before.....

The design uses Georgian garden design style curves which mirror the large half circle bay window, and works around a old existing greenhouse....

Almost finished, but still awaiting planters and planting....

Before.....

And after the new trellis screens have been fitted, which divide the parking area from the garden and will also provide a backdrop for the garden and planting.

Exotic Courtyard, Fowey

This new build in Fowey had laid slabs edged by a dirt and weed border.  It looked very sorry for itself, but had huge potential being a really hot and sunny sheltered space.

The clients' brief was for a garden to have the feel of the Tresco Abbey Gardens on the Isles of Scilly that they loved.   Curves were to be used to soften the rectangular area. The garden space is not large so they wanted the design to create depth and real interest with exotic planting, and to be in keeping with the contemporary style of the house.

Low retaining walls on two levels were to take advantage of the slight level differences in the garden, and the steps within them to give the feel of 'places to go to within the garden' even though the borders were relatively shallow in width.

A curving sculptural wall to provide interest and a back drop for plants.

A simple water feature to sit amongst the plants, resembling the boulders used elsewhere in the garden...

Palms and exotic plants have been used....

Courtyard Garden near Wadebridge

The courtyard before work started.  It was full of straggly lavender, old weedy gravel and badly laid stones.....

The clients wanted to create a stylish and formal garden in keeping with the house; with different textures; raised beds to act as informal seating and a central feature to bring everything together.

The wonderful existing granite uprights were kept in place with new raised beds, slate paving and a central pool surrounded by pebbles and lavender beds.....

Standard bay trees sit in each corner of the lavender beds.....

The planting is simple and elegant with lavender, rosemary, standard bays, an olive tree, agapanthus, nepeta and sedums amongst others....perfect for this style of courtyard.....
