Japanese Pine Garden Completed

This Wadebridge garden lacked focus and felt rather dark and lifeless, being dominated by two large Monterey pines.  The clients wanted to keep the pines, their greenhouse in position, as well as the fountain.

The existing decking needed a complete make-over as well...

The decking was replaced, the fountain revamped; the new coat of paint matching the greenhouse.  The scrubby grass beneath the trees was replaced by a beautiful new gravel surface, the warm and light colour of which completely lifts the light levels in the garden, and also provides a level walking surface over the large (now hidden) surface pine roots.

The gravel surface wraps around new borders and provides pathways around the garden, setting off sculptural boulders and reclaimed garden furniture.

A tired and overgrown border lay at the bottom of the garden and provided little interest and focus.

This old border was cleared and replaced.  A Japanese inspired screen frames the whole garden acting as a wonderful backdrop. The new border runs the length of the screen and is planted with a mix of shrubs, acers, ferns, hostas and grasses.

Two sculptural granite uprights frame an access point through the hedge to the hidden compost bins beyond.

Some of the clients' existing pots worked well with the design and were planted with evergreen grasses for all year round interest.

The garden and the two mature pines now enhance each other and work in complete harmony together.

What had once been a difficult (quite steeply sloping) garden to use and enjoy has been given a completely new lease of life, and looks amazing.
