Padstow Family Garden

This large Padstow garden was a lovely space but overgrown and in need of redesigning to maximise its potential.  The greenhouse, oil tank and shed all needed to stay in the same positions.

 

 

 

 

 

The old concrete path was repaved and the old veg beds transformed with raised timber beds and pergolas for climbers.

 

New timber steps take you up the steep slope of the garden from the greenhouse to the new seating area at the top of the garden.

 

The greenhouse has had new low timber retaining walls built around it giving some needed working space and defining the space, also providing some raised planting areas.

 

The old garden retaining wall has been rebuilt with a raised planter incorporated, and a new terrace for seating created.

 

 

More photos to follow when the new turf goes down.  This will complete the transformation.

Garden at Mount

This is lovely spot by the river and amongst the trees.  The walled courtyard next to the house had loads of potential but was a bit unloved, the clients not really knowing how to develop it.

 

The clients wanted to incorporate this lower section into the main courtyard.

 

An old concrete and block structure that was to be incorporated into the design...

 

Old and overgrown steps were to be redesigned....

 

The clients wanted a contemporary design in keeping with the room of the house that looked out over the courtyard.  They also wanted lots of useable seating space and very low maintenance planting.

 

 

During the build.

 

 

A pergola and seat transform the old block structure, which needed to be kept as it helps support the main garden wall.

The walls were cleaned and painted, which add reflected light back into the courtyard.

 

The nearly completed paving and steps down to lower part of the garden.

 

What an amazing transformation so far...there is still some work to be done as well as the planting which should happen in April...

 

Mousehole Courtyard Garden

This long and narrow back garden of an old fisherman's cottage in Moushole had been left to become completely overgrown and full of rubbish.

 

 

The clients wanted lots of seating space as this is a very sunny spot, and with low maintenance planting beds and planting.

The clients are undertaking the build themselves and it is currently ongoing.

The planting will be low maintenance and with a Mediterranean feel, to suit the microclimate in the garden and this village in the far south west.

 

The planting hopefully will take place at the end of this month, photos to follow on later in the season....

New Polzeath Garden

The New Polzeath garden is now complete and looking absolutely amazing. 

 

The sunken circle providing a private seating space out of the wind....

 

 

The pathway through the garden that connects each area is sunken and then rises up to meet the terrace in front of the house.

 

 

 

The beautiful curving sweep of the terrace.

 

The grasses look so effective in the winter sunshine, providing all year round interest.

 

It is amazing how quickly the trailing Rosemary has spread out and down, clothing the stone walls.

 

Planting pockets in the gravel provide a perfect home for sedums.

 

Lovely Lampranthus enjoying the warmth of the slate capping to the walls.

 

The planting towards the end of the summer last year.

 

Grasses such as Stipa provide great movement and look so in keeping with the coastal location.

 

The planting has been designed for this coastal setting with Nepeta and Achillea and Osteospurmums amongst many others.

 

I can't wait to see how it is going to look this spring/summer,  photos later in the season......

Nanstallon Garden

The plan....the garden has several distinct areas which the clients wanted to unite with a cohesive plan for the whole garden. 

 

 

 

This very steep drive was the access for vehicles to several derelict outbuildings and yard taking up half the garden.  The clients wanted turn the sloping drive into a terraced garden incorporated into the garden closest to the house.

After - a gravelled courtyard area with timber planters and pergola.  This links three areas together; the terraced space, the garden closest to the house and the garden on what was the old yard.

The old lawn and borders have been redesigned and shaped and are now connected to

the terraced garden and new paved terrace.

After - a new deck around the shed to provide a level surface around the building, and a barked vegetable garden with timber veg beds.

 

 

The greenhouse has a new level gravelled surface around for working access and raspberry beds sit in the new turf.
