Designs and Planting Plans for Garden near Falmouth

Designs and planting plans for two side-by-side front gardens.  

One garden is quite formal to suit the style of the house, and the other is designed to create swathes of planting enclosing small seating spaces.

The pathways and seating circles are designed to be in granite setts.  The planting in both is a mix of perennials and grasses with a framework of shrubs.

This plan for the sloping 'field garden' sets out ideas for planting, seating areas, a summer house, and pathways through the garden to the new pond.

This is the plan for the formal walled garden adjacent to the main house.

St Merryn Village Garden

The clients of this new-build cottage wanted a design for a low maintenance garden with lots of seating space.  The design divides the garden into different areas or 'rooms' with blocks of lawn, slate paving, and gravel.  Borders run around the garden providing planting that will clothe and soften the fence. 

 

A pergola with climbers will run across the garden, giving some height interest and reinforcing the division of the areas.

 

 

 

The contemporary planting includes palms, agapanthus and grasses.

Talland Bay Design

A new design for a garden overlooking Talland Bay, near Polperro. 
Stone built walls, granite sett circles, paths with flowing lines, and planting to reflect the coastal setting and character of the house.

 

The landscaping will start later in the year.

 

Country Garden, St Ives

This new-build back garden in the countryside outside St Ives was laid to scrubby lawn by the builders with just a rectangle of paving slabs.

 The client's design brief was for a very low maintenance garden to 'potter' in, and a pretty garden to sit in.  

 

 

 

Borders run around the garden with planting beds in the centre which - when the planting has established - will fill the garden with colour and interest and be easy to access and maintain.

 

The slope to rear of the garden will be tackled at a later date.

 

The paving provides lots of seating and 'pottering' space.

The contemporary planting scheme is designed for the hot and sunny location by the coast,  including palms, agapanthus and grasses.

 

 

Town Garden, Looe

The brief for the design of this awkwardly shaped garden in Looe was for a low maintenance design that solved the problem of different levels and slopes.  The new garden needed to be much more user friendly, with level pathways and seating spaces.  The design also needed to create one cohesive garden that would wrap around the house, instead of two distinct and separate areas.

The 'before' view of the side garden and looking towards the front garden.  The large shrubs were removed to open out the space and create more user friendly areas.

 

A ramp was created to link the lower level by the house up on to the front lawn, so that the client could move a mower around much more easily.

A new curving retaining wall allowed the lawn to be levelled up and created the space for the new pathway around the house and into the back garden.  This pathway and curving wall links the front, side and back gardens beautifully.

 

 

This 'before' view into the back garden illustrates the very awkward levels that made the garden difficult to use effectively.

 

 

Retaining walls brought up the levels and allowing the path to carry on round the house through planting and down to the circular lawn and deck area.

 

Contemporary fencing, a pergola and large pots all add to the look.

 

 

The planting was designed to be low maintenance with evergreens, grasses, some perennials, and importantly, to be beautiful to look at.

 

 

The bird bath is a lovely focal point and feature.

 

A small step down from the lawn allows access to the planting and bird bath.

 

 

When the plants fill out next year this garden will look even more stunning.
